This is a game that I have spent many hours playing (a total of 25 hours). I have had this game for many years and its one that I find myself coming back to time and time again. It is a rouge like game about leading a team of people and aliens in their quest to end a rebellion. You must position and move your crew along with manning the weapons on your ship in order to fight off space pirates, rebels and drone-controlled spaceships. You navigate a map one star/planet at a time. You never know what your going to run into after each jump. The ship fights are interesting and strategic. You must target where on the enemy ship you want to attack. Damaging the shields stops them from blocking your attacks or you could attack their weapon systems which stops them from attacking you. If you need more time to make such decisions or think about what the best course of action is, fear not, at any time you can press the space bar to pause everything.
After fights you gain scrap (the currency of the game) which is used to buy things or to upgrade your ship from anywhere. You find more than just fights as you explore. There are many small scenarios that you will encounter with decisions to choose. If your ship runs out of health or if all your crew perishes its back to square one again. However, there are things you keep from run to run. There are other types of ships to unlock and achievements to get that lead to unlocking different layouts for your ships.

Each ship is different and focuses on different ways to play the game. One focuses on using drones to attack the enemy ship, another one comes with a teleporter to send your crewmembers over to attack the enemy crew directly. There are many ways to play this game and switching up your playstyle keeps things interesting. It only takes a couple of hours to get to the end of the game. The ending is difficult but defeating the final boss is satisfying and can unlock a ship (it depends on what ship you use). In the end it’s a fun game that’s made to be played again and again.

Hollow Knight by Team Cherry

Hollow knight is a metrovania game, a combination of exploration, fighting and platforming. It takes place in a kingdom of bugs. As you explore the many areas in the game you fight your way past enemies ranging from spiders, mantises, mushrooms and more. My honest opinion of this game is that’s its one of my favorite games that I have ever played. There was so much that I enjoyed during my time exploring the kingdom of hollow nest. The combat was very engaging and fast paced. From hitting enemies with your weapon, you gain soul(magic) this is used for healing yourself and unleashing powerful attacks. In order to be able to heal yourself you must deal damage to enemies. So, you have to make sure you are constantly getting hits in. This is especially important during boss fights, and in this game, there are a lot of them. When you run out of health you are taken back to the last check point you used and along with that you drop all the money that you were carrying. However you do get the chance to get your money back, around where you died there will be a shadow of you that if you defeat(it`s very easy to beat it) you get all the money you dropped back again.
There is a lot of exploring to do in this game with many different areas to see and items to find. A few of the areas were mostly cave like but there are plenty of different places to keep things interesting. For example, the green path which adds green acid water to avoid and lots of plants. My personal favorite area in the game was the city of tears where it is constantly raining and the music you listen to is fantastic as you explore an abandoned city. And in this game exploration is well rewarded. There are plenty of collectables from items to sell, charms that boost your abilities or key items that allow you to get to new areas.
The only real customization in the game you get is the charm system. Charms do a wide variety of things for you, from increasing your basic attack range to gaining more magic then normal with every attack. My favorite, while maybe not the most useful, gives you three little spider minions who follow you around and attack enemies. You can only equip so many charms at a time, so you must choose which to use until you get to another check point where you can change them out again. Another thing I love about the game is the music. The music for the boss fights is fast paced while a lot of the exploration music is slower and more relaxing. There are several different endings in the game. Getting to the different endings mostly just involves completing more difficult challenges and bosses. It took me around 30 hours to complete the game and I enjoyed it a lot. There were a few different DLCs made for the game all of which are free. And a sequel to the game is on the way, which I am really looking forward to.
