Absolutely. Once Dr. Wilson has a chance to see your hands and ascertain the problem, he will discuss all your options with you and help you make an informed decision, surgical or not.

Will my surgery be at a hospital?
No. Dr. Wilson performs his operations at Northbank Surgery Center in Salem, Oregon. This allows for highly personalized care in a pleasant and efficient outpatient surgery setting. The cost is usually much less than an operation in a hospital. However, those patients who prefer a hospital setting may have their procedures done at Santiam Hospital.
What kind of anesthesia is used?
The majority of the hand surgery operations can be performed by regional or local anesthesia. This means that most patients requiring hand surgery do not have to be put to sleep or undergo a general anesthetic. This way, you may go home the same day without the effects of a general anesthetic. Patients who are anxious may receive sedation to help them relax. Dr. Wilson performs many operations using only local anesthetic (like dentists use in their offices).
When can I go back to work?
The length of time for recuperation after hand surgery operations varies depending upon the type of procedure performed. Most patients return to work within 3-5 days for minor procedures and up to 2 weeks for major operations. This can vary since some patients return to light duty the next day while others require many weeks or months if no light duty is available. Dr. Wilson discusses the return to work expectation with each patient so that you may plan accordingly.
When can I begin to exercise after surgery?
All patients are encouraged to be walking the day of the operation. Most patients can return to some level of physical activity within 24 hours after the operation. Dr. Wilson will be happy to discuss the details of your situation with you individually prior to any surgical procedures being performed.
